Beyond the Yard

Terms of service

Draft - version 0, not yet in force

This is a draft and has not been reviewed. It describes what the app actually does and what we intend the rules to be, so that a reviewer has something real to work from. It is not legal advice and it is not yet the agreement between us. Do not rely on it.

Beyond the Yard is a place for horse riders to find people nearby, organise rides, ask local questions, buy and sell equipment between themselves, and hear about events. These terms cover how you may use it.

Who may use it

You must be 18 or over. The app is built for adults: it has no safeguarding design for young people, no guardian consent and no youth accounts, so we do not allow them rather than handling them badly.

You need an account to see anything beyond this website. One account per person, and the details you give when you register must be your own and accurate.

What we are, and what we are not

We are a place for riders to find each other. We are not a party to anything you arrange through it.

Riding carries risk, and meeting people you have met online carries risk. Take the precautions you would take anyway: tell someone where you are going, meet somewhere sensible the first time, and back your own judgement over a profile.

Your content

What you post stays yours. By posting it you give us permission to store it and show it to other members as the app is designed to - your profile to the riders it is shown to, your listing to people browsing the marketplace, your message to the person you sent it to. That permission is only for running the service, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.

Do not post anything you do not have the right to post. If you put up a photograph, it should be yours.

How to behave

The short version: be someone people are glad to meet at a yard.

You can Report anything that breaks these rules and Block anyone you would rather not hear from. We read reports. Where something is wrong we may remove content, restrict an account or close it, and where it is serious we will do that without warning.

Closing your account

You may leave whenever you want - how to delete your account explains what happens to your content.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to. If we close yours, we will tell you why unless telling you would make things worse for someone else.

While we are in testing

Beyond the Yard is a pilot. It will have bugs, it may lose things, features will change, and we may stop running it. We do not promise it will be available, and we do not promise your data will survive a mistake - so if something matters to you, keep your own copy.

We provide the service as it is, without warranties. We are not liable for what other members do, for anything you arrange through the app, or for losses that do not follow directly from something we got wrong. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

Changes

When we change these terms we will say so in the app and update the date at the top. If a change matters, continuing to use the app after it takes effect is how you accept it; if you would rather not, you can close your account.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you keep the protections of your local law.
